Master Black Belt Development Program
Take your career to the next level

What you will learn

Overview

As teachers, mentors, project leaders and change agents, master black belts (MBBs) play a critical role in driving quantifiable improvements throughout their organizations. There is no option, therefore, but to prepare future MBBs in a challenging and rigorous manner so they can perform effectively in their new roles.

BMGI’s Master Black Belt training courses really challenged me, both personally and professionally. I learned a great deal, not only about the Six Sigma methodology, but also about becoming a leader within my organization.

MBB candidates in this course are already certified black belts, so they’ve learned and successfully applied their change leadership and problem-solving skills within the context of the DMAIC (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control) methodology. To reach the next level as certified MBBs, candidates in this program will:

  • Focus on the advanced tools and facilitation skills needed to lead change within their organizations.
  • Complete at least 20 days of advanced coursework, choosing approximately four electives from this list of options.
  • Achieve a 90% or higher exam grade on BMGI’s black belt exams.
  • Complete three applied projects, one of which involves mentoring green belts or black belts or a large-scale project that significantly impacts a primary metric.
  • Submit a paper to a periodical or deliver a public session derived from a paper.
  • Be nominated for MBB status by a 360-degree team. Three letters of nomination are required: one from a superior, one from a peer and one from an individual the candidate has mentored.

The differentiating aspects of this program are its discipline, its personalized attention provided to each candidate by a designated BMGI master instructor, its flexibility in learning modes (classroom with online support) and its self-paced schedule (click on How You Will Learn for more details).

How you will learn

In addition to the world-class instruction, the online curriculum and four required workshops provided the rigor I was seeking from an MBB program. One of the most rewarding aspects was having an assigned mentor/coach to guide me through my requirements. It was easy to schedule times and dates to meet, and most importantly, the feedback was incredibly helpful. If you want to develop yourself into a certified MBB, I highly recommend the BMGI program.

Classroom

You’ll begin your MBB course of study and application by getting paired with a master BMGI instructor who coaches you through every step of the certification process—helping you select your electives, pass your exams, write your paper and complete your three projects.

With guidance from your instructor, you have the freedom to chart your own path, setting timelines and deadlines that work for you—and choosing the right courses for filling your unique knowledge and application gaps.

If you’re extremely well versed in the analytics of problem solving and need more people skills, or want to tighten your grasp of creative thinking tools, you can sign up for these courses. If you are well versed in Lean or Six Sigma, you can take electives that bring you up to expert status in one or the other domains.

If you have the opportunity to engage in and complete your three projects in a short period of time, the program will accommodate this, as it will accommodate a more extended time frame for project completion.

The program is highly flexible in this and other regards. Some elective courses, for instance, allow you to learn remotely via webcam so you can interact with the class and instructors as if you were all together in the same place. Other courses require your physical presence because of their experiential nature.

In any case, your classroom time is reinforced with access to BMGI’s state-of-the-art eLearning system, giving you interactive flash-based tutorials and sample quizzes to test your knowledge on virtually any topic. You can also access downloadable templates, tools and case studies as you make the transition from candidate to full-fledged MBB.

Credits for this program depends on your course electives - typically between 14 and 16 CEUs (authorized by IACET).
