Effective and efficient use of existing equipment
Through identification of specific process variation and creation of standard
work, our team was able to restore 20MW of Generation to an overall Unit
reducing the future need to add system Generation
(via purchase or construction) saving $4.9 - $9.7 million over five years.
Equipment Maintenance and Re-Start
Out teams identified process gaps, both manual and electronic, which
led to longer down time and significant need for over-time and
use of contract labor.
Through the use of TPM and quick change-over tools, this team was able
to achieve 100% on-time starts with an average savings of
$2.5-$4.5 million over 3-5 years.
Adherence to Cyber Security Protocols for Mission Critical Computer
Systems in Power Stations
This client built a team to identify the root cause of their
organization's inability to keep up with security patches on
mission-critical computers. Through various tools and methods,
the team developed an automated tool for tracking patch installation
and providing timely data to the generation sites to ensure the target
was attainable on a monthly basis with minimal workload impact.
At the end of the project,
the team successfully achieved and sustained a 90% target while
consistently exceeding the corporate patch management average of 61%.
This effort was recognized as the most successful project within that
entire organization for that year.
Job estimating to prevent "overdraw" and/or excess
Through the use of innovation tools and methods this utility reduced overdraw,
decreased inventory on hand, and improved employee safety and job
satisfaction. Specific benefits included increased productivity due to
workflow improvement, increased inventory availability due to
faster processing, reduced scrap, and cost avoidance for the purchase
of new materials. After the initial implementation at one facility,
the company replicated these improvements at other locations incurring
savings of nearly $1.5 million per year.
