For a large bank, the annual cost of online queries made to an external supplier was too high. The project team reduced the complexity of queries and report selection by replacing 47 different web reports with one report that satisfied 80 percent of users, and put that report out to bid with five different suppliers. As a result, the bank reduced costs by 54 percent, or $500k per year.
